Challenges of Teaching with AI Technology

Teaching Earth science at the college level has always been a rewarding experience, but the rise of generative AI has created new challenges. As a part-time faculty member, I’ve navigated the complexities of asynchronous online courses where recorded videos replace in-person instruction. This shift can lead to increased disengagement, as students may not feel compelled to participate actively without the accountability of attending a scheduled class.

While the joy of working with students remains, the struggle to keep them engaged in a virtual environment has become increasingly difficult. Adapting teaching methods and embracing technology is now more crucial than ever to foster effective learning experiences in an era dominated by AI.
