Banks and currency exchanges in Ukraine are obligated to exchange old or worn dollar bills. The National Bank of Ukraine has mandated that customers cannot be denied currency exchange based on the year of issue or the condition of banknotes.
In 2023, regulations were tightened due to numerous incidents of refusal related to worn currency. If the authenticity of a banknote is confirmed by specialized equipment, it must be accepted for exchange, regardless of any wear, stains, or minor damages. Additionally, there are no restrictions on the year of issue, requiring the acceptance of all U.S. dollars issued after 1914.
