YouTube is taking significant steps to enhance transparency regarding videos created with generative AI. The platform announced that it will place labels indicating 'photorealistic and meaningfully AI altered or generated content' in more visible areas. For long-form videos, these labels will appear directly below the video player, while Shorts will feature an overlay on the video itself.
In addition to improved labeling, YouTube plans to implement automatic detection of AI-generated content starting in May 2026. This advancement is designed to streamline the disclosure process, making it easier for viewers to identify content influenced by generative AI.
