Yoshihisa Kishimoto, the visionary behind the beloved Double Dragon and River City franchises, has passed away at 64. This news was confirmed by his son, Ryūbō Kishimoto, through various social media platforms.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Ryūbō expressed his sorrow, stating, "I am sorry to inform you that my father has passed to rest on April 2, 2026. Please continue to enjoy my father’s works, including Kuno-kun."
Kishimoto’s career began at Data East, where he contributed to laserdisc games before co-founding Technōs. His creations, particularly the beat-em-ups, were inspired by personal experiences and cinematic influences, leading to the iconic games that defined a genre. Even after departing Technōs to pursue independent projects, Kishimoto remained a significant figure in game development, most recently directing Double Dragon IV in 2017.
