Inevitable Price Hike for Switch 2 Ahead
- Hardware price increases seem unavoidable for Nintendo
- Rising costs in materials and inflation pressure prices up
- Nintendo's game pricing strategy may help cushion the impact
As inflation continues to rise, a former Nintendo retail lead predicts that a price increase for the upcoming Switch 2 is almost inevitable. Speaking on the Kit & Krysta podcast, "Sean" highlighted that while Nintendo has lowered prices on downloadable games to mitigate backlash, hardware costs are still likely to rise due to multiple external factors.
Sean noted that rising tariffs and increasing demand for AI-related chips are driving up memory prices. Additionally, the escalating costs of essential materials, such as helium for semiconductor production, further compound the challenges Nintendo faces. Although the company can potentially offset thinner hardware profit margins with merchandising, it might ultimately have no choice but to raise prices on its next generation console.
