Ubuntu and its parent company, Canonical, have experienced a significant infrastructure outage since Thursday morning. This disruption is hindering the company's ability to communicate effectively following a recent vulnerability disclosure.
Many attempts to access Ubuntu and Canonical websites or to download updates have failed, although mirror sites continue to function properly. According to Canonical's status page, the outage is a result of a sustained cross-border attack, with little additional information being provided since the incident began.
A Decades-Long Threat
A group that aligns with the Iranian government has claimed responsibility, alleging they conducted a DDoS attack through an operation named Beam. This attack is part of a broader trend of using stress tests as a guise for malicious targeting of websites. Recently, the same group has also claimed attacks on platforms like eBay.
