The crew of NASA's Artemis II mission has successfully returned to Earth after an impressive 10-day journey around the Moon, culminating in a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. This mission marked the first human lunar flyby in over 50 years, featuring astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen.
During their historic flight, the crew traveled a total of 694,481 miles, reaching a maximum distance of 252,756 miles from Earth, setting a new record by surpassing the Apollo 13 mission. They faced intense conditions during re-entry, with speeds exceeding 38,600 km/h and the capsule experiencing temperatures comparable to those on the Sun's surface.
With Artemis II complete, the focus now shifts to Artemis III and the ambitious plans for establishing a permanent presence on the Moon.
