Ukrainian lawmaker Alexander Fediyenko has expressed his views on the potential legalization of short-barreled firearms for civilian use in Ukraine. In a recent opinion piece, he highlighted that the core issue lies not in the firearms themselves, but in the absence of a systematic approach to handling firearm culture.
Fediyenko noted, "It is important to clarify: firearms are not prohibited in Ukraine. Any citizen who meets formal requirements can purchase them. The real issue is the lack of mandatory training." He argues that while individuals can acquire weapons, they are not required to learn how to handle them responsibly. The focus should be on creating an educational ecosystem that fosters skills and accountability rather than simply broadening access to firearms.
