Since the launch of the Xbox One in 2013, Microsoft has gradually refined the design of its Xbox Controller. However, the recent Forza Horizon 6 controller hints at a significant change—more specifically, the potential removal of the proprietary expansion port.
A recent image shared by a Reddit user reveals that this port is now completely sealed, while the auxiliary port remains intact. This raises concerns about Microsoft’s future direction regarding the expansion port, which has been a staple since the controller’s inception.
Introduced in 2015, the auxiliary port replaced the need for the expansion port, initially used for various accessories, including chat pads and audio controllers. With the decline in accessories that utilize this older design, it appears that Microsoft may pivot away from this feature in forthcoming controllers.
