Deep Silver and 4A Games have unveiled the first look at Metro 2039 during an Xbox showcase, showcasing gameplay and announcing a winter 2026 release.
This installment introduces a new lead character named The Stranger, who embarks on a harrowing journey through the Moscow Metro, building upon the foundation laid by 2019’s Metro Exodus.
The trailer portrays a blend of psychological horror and survival as The Stranger encounters unsettling supernatural phenomena, including ghostly children and ominous chains pulling them into darkness. The narrative reintroduces fans to the series’ iconic elements while promising a grittier atmosphere backed by the 4A Engine.
Co-creative director Pavel Ulmer describes the game as exploring the dark depths of human despair in a world ravaged by nuclear fallout, while creative director Andriy Shevchenko hints at a society rife with authoritarian control and desperation.
