In a recent announcement, Meta revealed plans to lay off approximately 8,000 employees, which equates to about 10% of its total workforce, while also eliminating 6,000 open job listings. The decision, outlined in a memo from Chief People Officer Janelle Gale, is expected to be finalized next month.
Gale acknowledged the uncomfortable news, stating that the layoffs were necessary to align resources more closely with the company's growing focus on artificial intelligence. This comes on the heels of previous cuts within Meta's Reality Labs division, which had already seen over 1,000 employees let go.
