During a recent briefing at NASA's headquarters in Washington, the agency unveiled new contracts aimed at developing lunar vehicles capable of transporting crews and deploying uncrewed lander modules to the Moon. NASA executives shared anticipated launch timelines and milestones for the initial Lunar Base infrastructure missions and exploration of the lunar South Pole, setting the stage for the arrival of astronauts under the Artemis program.
“The Lunar Base will be humanity's first outpost on another celestial body,” stated NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman. “Every mission, whether crewed or uncrewed, will provide valuable learning experiences as we return to the lunar surface, construct the necessary infrastructure for sustained presence, and master the skills needed to survive and operate in one of the most challenging and hazardous environments imaginable. We are pursuing scientific knowledge, economic benefits, and technological innovations,” he further emphasized.
