The 39-year-old was accused of violating Japan’s Copyright Act by posting detailed summaries shortly after the releases of these works. The crux of the case hinged on whether the posts qualified as adaptations, which typically require permission from copyright holders.
The prosecution argued that the extensive detail in the articles could potentially spoil the experience for viewers and infringe on the creators' rights. Conversely, the defense contended that summarizing plots did not encapsulate the original essence of the works, which are meant to be experienced visually and audibly.
Ultimately, the court found that the articles conveyed enough information to undermine the original creators' intent, leading to the imposed penalties.
