- Zelnick emphasizes selective project choices for quality
During a recent iicon event, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that a sequel to one of the company's iconic franchises was put on hold due to a dispassionate developer. Although the specific franchise was not disclosed, Zelnick described a discomforting vibe during the greenlight meeting, prompting him to question the producer's excitement about the project.
He recalled, "I asked, 'How excited are you about working on this title?' To which the producer candidly confessed, 'I'm not all that excited.' This led to an immediate halt in discussions, underscoring that Take-Two prioritizes passion and enthusiasm in their game development process.
Zelnick also mentioned that while Take-Two is exploring future installments for all its franchises, nothing will be greenlit without genuine interest from the team behind it.
