Square Enix has revealed exciting updates on Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams, marking a new chapter for the beloved RPG franchise. In a special video during the 40th anniversary celebration of Dragon Quest, executive producer Yosuke Saito disclosed that the game has undergone a complete restart in development, necessitating the change of its title.
Saito explained that the overhaul was essential to align with the series' core vision after encountering significant challenges. The new narrative is set to explore a protagonist with dreams holding mysterious significance, steering the plot in a more vibrant direction compared to the previously darker themes.
Despite these changes, the game will retain its signature elements, including character designs by the late Akira Toriyama and music by the esteemed Koichi Sugiyama, ensuring that long-time fans feel right at home.
