As quantum computing advances, concerns regarding its impact on encryption have risen. Cryptography expert Filippo Valsorda argues that AES 128 remains robust even in a post-quantum landscape.
Adopted as the Advanced Encryption Standard by NIST in 2001, AES 128 balances operational efficiency with strong security. With no known vulnerabilities in its history, it boasts 2128 possible key combinations, making brute-force attacks impractical, projected to take around 9 billion years even with significant computational resources.
The misconception around Grover's algorithm has led some to believe that quantum computers could halve AES 128's security to 264. However, the practical application of quantum computers differs, and they cannot effectively parallelize the attack as theorized.
