Californians File Lawsuit Over Unconsented AI Recordings

Several Californians have initiated a class-action lawsuit against Sutter Health and MemorialCare, alleging that an AI transcription tool recorded their doctor visits without prior consent, contravening state and federal regulations.

This suit, filed in federal court in San Francisco, claims that patients were unaware their confidential communications were captured and processed using the Abridge AI platform during their medical appointments. The plaintiffs contend there was insufficient notice about the recording and transmission of their conversations outside the clinical environment.
